Ready, set, go!

Having been gifted with thick hair, I am constantly working on techniques to dry my hair quick quick quick. A perfect set (at home) is generally time consuming, leaving you with rollers in your hair for hours. Although I like the idea of nipping to the shops in your rollers, sometimes you want to show off your lovingly set locks when shopping for toilettries in Asda.
I was told by a collegue that a portable hair bonnet would give me a helping hand in the setting department. And by golly it did! This morning I put my rollers in at 7.15am (which took 9 minutes) and by 7.25am the hood dryer was on. (It attaches over your hairdryer, very easy.) I was able to eat breakfast, put on my makeup AND sort out ebay emails whilst my silver space helmet warmed my set through. By 7.50 I was dryed and ready to go. A revelation!!
A perfect set from wet to dry in no less than 35 minutes!
Ignore how stupid you look- every girl needs a silver space helment dryer thingy.

I dream in mint green.

I passed a hair assignment today, so I have purchased this original crepe late '50s onesie to congratulate myself. (Any excuse!)
Whatcha think girls? It's a mint green dream.
When she arrives, I will be wearing her with accessories along these lines...

Oddball Burlesque.

It's just a few weeks away now to Oddball Burlesque. Held in Nottingham on Friday 18th Feb. I'm very intrigued, I've seen loads of regular Burlesque, but never any of the oddball variety. Should be cool.
Check out the link to have a browse of their website and to find out what oddball burlesque is all about. Or if you live near Nottingham, come along!
Here are some of the preformers we will be treated to watching. (Particularly excited to see what is involved with when watching a male burlesque preformance!)
Marnie Scarlett.
Warren Peace.
Mama Jenufa. Described as the 'Pat Butcher' of Burlesque.

Your lips sink ships.

Last night I payed a visit to a friend to give them a trim. Turns out, she has my dream mirror in her bathroom!

Tasty Tuesday.

My friends are excellent in the kitchen, AND they both look great in Dead Men's Spex!
(I've recently found out that the stall pictured in my last post was infact a Dead Men's Spex stall!)

Here's Ruth in her peachy glasses. A few weeks ago she held a dinner party for us. It was a Jamie Oliver bonanza, as we all have crushes on him. This filo pie was part, yes part of the starter. She sure knows how to fill people up!
This is Chloe. She has the most luscious lips, and she can cook a right nice rice pudding. Infact she cooked one for us last night. She don't skimp on the cream and added her own topping for extra tastiness: a sticky raisin glaze.

His and Hers wishlist.

I can remember on my 14th birthday asking for a pair of glasses with clear lenses in them, so I could become a pretend glasses wearer. My mum told me that it was a waste of money and a stupid idea, so I never got them.
8 years later, I still plan on getting a pair of glasses with clear lenses in them. Only these glasses are gonna be super smart.
Take a peek:
I found these glasses on a stall at the Norfolk 40's reinactment weekend a few years ago. I never got the name of the seller. He had some spectacular specs.
Christopher also is wanting some new glasses. He actually needs glasses though and is an experienced glasses wearer of 11 years unlike me!

Both pairs from Dead Men's Spex

A trail of rouge.

With the discontinuation of my most perfect lipstick (boo hoo sob sob) I have had to be adorning my smackers with a regular 'stick. I was dreading the day when Maybelline got rid of their 18 hour lip stain. And that day has come. The kind lady in boots informed me that Maybelline are re-releasing the lip stain in a few weeks. Hallelujah!
I actually really enjoy the routine of putting lipstick on. Liner, lipstick, blot, reapply, blot, beautiful.
Trouble is, I am not used to being careful whilst being red lipped. I'm so used to not worrying about leaving red kisses on everything I touch. So, I apologise to anything that comes in contact with my lips for the next few weeks!

Black & White September.

Last September we lived in the Old Post Office for a week.
Our cottage was on the very edge of the sea.

We went swimming,
befriended stray dogs,
and got called 'factory girls'.

(The effect I have put on this photograph can be found here. Christopher does not agree with making a new photograph look old. I understand what he says, but I love the look of old photographs, and for these pictures, I think it's ok!)

Baby Beret.

Many times today, I got told that my beret had "shrunk in the rain". I like my berets small, your hair gets lost otherwise. It was raining today, but I assure you, this beret has not shrunk!
Dog number two. She has been better behaved than Inka today. You wouldn't catch this brooch chasing a toddler and stealing their football......
This wiggle dress makes me feel like Betty Grable in her teacher scene in 'Pin Up Girls'
I bet no one tells Betty she has a shrunken beret.

Lettin' go.

Back when Inka looked like Gnasher from Dennis the Menace, I used to wear this striped 40's sundress all the time. Just recently I haven't been feeling the same about it, so I'm lettin' her go. She is for sale here. (along with some other beautiful things which are for sale here.)
Please give this stunning dress a loving home!

Fruit porn.

I am currently in the process of shrinking my feet so that I can fit into these fruity showstoppers.

A floral summer.

Last summer we were taken over the river to a friends birthday party.
The party took place in a pretty boat house. Complete with it's own dancefloor, how handy!
I knew there would be dancing, so I went fully dressed in Vivien of Holloway. A yellow floral circle dress and pink petticoats.

That perfect figure.

I've been reading up on what is thought to be the 'perfect' hourglass figure. A figure that has come in and out of fashion many times in the last 200 years. One article I came across mentioned the fact that certain set measurements are guaranteed to trigger the male hormonal system. Scientific stuff, this hourglass business!
Having found the formula to work out whether or not you are considered 'perfect' I set to work with my (lack of) number skills.
If any of you dolls are interested in trying this out then voila, here is the formula:
Divide your waist measurement by your hip measurement and record the number.
Divide your waist measurement by your bust measurement and record the number.
(Marilyn Monroe's was 0.8)

For the perfect hourglass, there must be no less than 9" between your hip-waist and bust waist measurements.
The bust must be 1" smaller or larger than the hips, in order to be classed as hourglass.

All my favourite colours.

I wore all the best colours when baking yesterday. The best of all, our icing turned into my best colour ever- mint green.
Fruit on fruit!
I absolutely love my milk bead fruit salad necklace, an ebay bargain.
A timeline of our efforts, I take no responsibility for the first one!
(Meant to be Christmas trees.)

Oh, hairdresser woes.

If there's one thing I dislike, it's chipped, chewed nails, and being one for ultimate glamour I had Gel nails put on about a year ago now. Oh how I loved them, they protected my nails, as they were constantly in water, and the Dita manicure I had lasted just around 4 weeks. If only I didn't have to keep up the expense that goes with maintaining your fake nails, so few weeks ago I made the painful decision to have them soaked off. I must be the only hairdresser without them.
I kept disciplined, keeping them looking as good as possible. Trouble is with red polish, it's really obvious when one develops a chip. After years of red polish I decided to opt for a nude shade, to allow for a few chips here and there. My Dita manicure is now saved for special occasions!
The one I'm wearing and have been wearing is brilliant and takes around a week for it to chip. It's an OPI one in a shade called 'barefoot in barcelona'. Highly recommended for fellow poor hairdressers!

Just one skirt.

After already breaking a resolution, I'm sticking to a new one. One of my friends used to find one of my dressing habits rather odd, and looking back it was a bit silly. I used to dress in outfits. For example; my yellow cardigan would be worn only with it's matching dress, I would not wear it with anything else.
On my measly trainee hairdresser wage, I cannot afford to do this anymore. I hope my friend will be proud of my skirt mixing with other tops!

Above photo worn with a beautiful angora sequined cardigan from Topshop. You'd never have guessed it!
Below photo with a Heyday black & white floral wrap top. Sadly most of these designs have sold out on her website.
Here's to my new resolution.

Winter dogs and a broken resolution.

It was totally inevitable, I knew it would happen. For my new year resolution was for me to stop the shopping. Yeah, anyway whilst out doing the deed, I came across what seemed like a guard dog of sorts. Alas, on closer inspection, this dog was so loveable in his knitted jumper, and not a snarl insight.
Later today, I made sure Inka was all wrapped up in her (Christophers) scarf.
