'Must have' Monday buys.

In my usual practised shopping route, I always tend to include Topshop. I ignore the hot stuffy changing rooms and hoards of posh students in their fur coats, because I know that every now and again I manage to find something lovely. Something that wouldn't look outta place in a woman's wardrobe circa 1949.
Just lately I have been craving Chinese prints, fantasising over floaty fabrics and fancying floor length skirts. In the corner of the maternity section(!!) I found this lone blouse in my size. And that was it. I got it home and styled it to satisfy my cravings. Top marks, Topshop.

The sleeves are lovely and billowy. If that's a word? Perfect for dancing anyhow.

What's on the jukebox Mama?

I love Sundays. They are for doing nothing except for being lazy, baking and listening to old records. My record player is a 1950s Dansette on legs, which Paul from the pub told me is not seen very often these days. I can remember when I bought it when living in Manchester. I'd spent my weekly allowence on it so had no money to take it back in a taxi. It took me nearly an hour to get it back, but looking at it now, it's so worth it.
My Dad has some great records stashed away in the loft, and today he got the rest of his collection down. I went straight for 'Buddy Holly, Lovesongs'.

I love the pattern on this dress. It looks great with brown accessories and I like to wear it with my black and white brogues topped off with white bobby socks. The perfect outfit for listening to Buddy Holly.

Sweet dreams.

With the beau away on a Brighton Stag do, I busied myself with practising my 40s vixen hair dos. Oh golly, I didn't realise how tired I was/am. Photos coming soon.
Goodnight from me & Inka.

In love with Lena Hoschek.

“the female ideal of the 40s and 50s, craftsmanship, high-end tailoring, traditional materials and patterns but also rock ‘n’ roll and punk music, tattoos, bad guys and fast cars.”
- Lena Hoschek on her Winter '10 collection.

Yes, she seems to be the word on every Vintage girls lips. And there is no reason for her not to be. Her rejection of traditional trend led fashions make my dream wardrobe a reality, and probably a whole lotta girls out there will feel the same! Favourite: Pink silk blouse. Oh so special.

'Must have' Monday buys.

I love accessories. Any kind will do. They can make or break an outfit, and I am a stickler when it comes to perfectly matching your accessories with your outfit. Always in need of more I came across these lovlies when out shopping in Ice 9 for incense sticks(!). A snip at £2 each, I fell in love. So much in love that I completely forgot about those incense sticks!

The second lovely thing was a belated birthday present from my darling brother. He lives in Leeds,
I'm impressed with his gift buying skills, you can't go wrong with Cath Kidston. I love old books and this book tin fits in perfectly with one of my many stacks of old books.

Even better, this top tin doubles up as a marvellous place to put hair slides and clips.
Thanks Bro!!

At your service!

This is my outfit on this foggy friday. Today I am your local hairdresser/Vintage hair styler at your service ma'am! I'm off to cut husband & and wife Julie and Rob who I know from the pub I work at. I thougt I'd take Inka with me as she could play with their dog Gemma. Both of them escaped a haircut!
I was asked a couple of months ago to style 18 or so people's hair for my darling friend Rachel's 1950's themed hen do and I throughly enjoyed it. I really can't wait for the days where I get to transform people's locks all day long!

1940's trousers: Vivien of Holloway.
Blue floral embroided cardigan: Nottingham Vintage fair.
Shoes: Office.

This is my hairdresser case. Everyone at college looks at it strangely but I adore it! I imagine a former hairdresser owned it before me in the late 50s.

You can't see, but inside my hair case is this photgraph. How top. A vintage version of Marge Simpson, no?

Anyway, I'm off to advertise my services!

A spot of spontaneity.

I've always wanted to trade in faffing around in the mornings trying to draw on a beauty mark in the same place for a permanent tattoo of one. If Dita can do it why can't I? Well, whilst walking to my bus stop after work on Saturday, a guy handed me a flyer about permanent make-up at Nottingham's Bodycraft tattoo parlour. Before I knew it, I was in the chair getting myself my very own 'spot. Bish bash bosh. AND I was finished in time to still catch my bus!
Well worth the tinsy winsy teeny weeny bit of pain.

Luscious non-human Ladies.

Ever since watching Fantastic Mr.Fox, I have come to realise that there are some nicely dressed characters on the TV. Forget those trashy celebrities, I'd rather take fashion inspiration from these Luscious non-human Ladies;

The darling Mrs.Fox. Sweetheart of Fantastic Mr.Fox.

Va-Va-Voom! That famous femme fatal, The Caramel Bunny. Cadburys answer to Marilyn Monroe in Rabbit form.

Wilma & Betty; the caveman's pinup.

This fruity idol is Chiquita the Bannana. The voice of Chiquita belongs to Monica Lewis. She is still alive and is 89 can you believe! Produced by Disney studios in the 1940s, this commercial only appeared in movie theaters.

And finally, quite possibly my favourite (well I am biased!) my Dog Inka. Even though she hasn't yet appeared on the television I couldn't leave her out of this post. Look at her neckscarf, it matches her cupcake!
