Last outfits....

...of 2010!
Last minute button sewing on my nye dress. (Which I think is meant to be a dressing gown!!)

I've had to do my hair ready for tonight, as I am going straight out after work. Esck. I do hope my pompadour stays in place.
A happy new year y'all, may it be incredibly glamorous!

Weigh me, baby.

A blissful day of no plans, so we decided to try out my Christmas presents from Christopher: A cupcake book and my super duper scales.
Of course, as there was food involved, Inka came to help us.
These are the scales,Christopher knows me so well.
And get this, the best bit- his own handmade weights!!
No need for washing up with Inka around.
(I have no cakes to show you, as in our excitment we made a fatal error. We forgot to add the sugar.)

THE DRESS! THE DRESS!

It's arrived, and it's beautiful.
As requested it has those ever so useful pockets, and does not look like a 'mormon dress' like my brother rudely suggested during the making process. Tut.

I decided to pick out the green in the fabric, as it is one of my favourite colours of the moment. The vibrant green orchid was a late buy from ebay and was so glad it arrived in time, as it goes perfectly. And finally, after weeks not being of living in a drawer due to their difficult colour, my much loved peach accessories managed to make an appearence.

Did i mention that I love my new dress? Thank you Mum!
I especially love the feather slippers I was wearing.
Happy Holidays everybody!

Ho Ho the Mistletoe.

My first festive themed post! A quick snap of my newly decorated fireplace. My mum gave me some spare holly, so I placed it lovingly around my pictures and trinkets.
Today at work, a kind old lady gave everyone some mistletoe she'd picked from her garden. She was so sweet! So in her honour, I thought I'd pose with it!
Of course, little Inka wanted to be in the photos. So she had her own photograph taken underneath my festive fireplace. (I pinched her santa hat in the photo below!)

THE DRESS.

My mum is so fed up with hearing me complain about my dressless situation, that for Christmas she has decided to make me a dress. How wonderful this is!
Yesterday we went out to buy the fabric. I had a mustard colour firmly in mind, to wear with black and white accessories, but it seems that mustard is quite a hard colour to come across. However as soon as I spotted this fabric, with flecks of coral, red and lime(ish) green, thoughts of mustard outfits vanished. We're pairing it with this stunning rust satin lining This is going to be the best dang Christmas dress in town!
The pattern is a from the Vintage collection of the Vogue Patterns. All the bits have been cut out and bless her, my mum is downstairs sewing as I blog!

Make up me.

A while ago, I remember my make-up bag to be full of all sorts of rubbish. Not any more- I've perfected my collection, finding the best quality and best priced make up for that perfect 40's face! A rule for all make-up that is to live in my bag;
it must be long lasting.
Embellished blusher brush from B Beautiful. (Sister company to Lush.)
Celia Bertwell eyeshadow, foundation & powder brushes.
Loreal true match liquid foundation in N1.
Loreal Studio Secrets Primer.
Bourjois Blush in 74 Rose (this smells so good!).
Mac Eyeshadow in Brule.
Rimmel eyebrow pencil in dark brown.
Mac Liquidlast Liner in Point Black  (shower-proof, sleep-proof, tear-proof and party-proof!).
Loreal Telescopic Mascara.
Garnier anti dark circles Roll on (a god send).
Mac Mineralize Powder in Light.
And behold, the top of the list, the holy grail, the queen of all lipsticks;
Maybelline Super Stay Colour in Red Passion. (I use this with a Mac Lip Liner in Cherry.)
It smells like watermelon, stains your lips the brightest red, is totally food, drink, shower and snog proof. All tried and tested on a daily basis! It also comes with a moisturising balm stick, to stop your lips from going sticky and bitty. My search is finally over for the best lipstick.

Tree Time.

After weeks of pleading Christopher to go get a tree, him and his flatmate finally agreed that Monday would be a tree decorating day. I was so excited, everyone knows this is my favourite time of year (apart from the cold weather!!) I was in charge of the festive songs, first up, my new favourite:

Whilst waiting for the tree to be delivered, we decided to decorate ourselves.
Christopher became a 'Chris-mas' tree!

'Winterizing'

Having always struggled with dressing appropriately for the cold winter months, I was interested by a recent post on a blog I love to follow.

Dressless.

At the moment I am experiencing a lull in the dress front. I've never come across this sort of thing before, I've always been inundated with fabulous garms!
My wardrobe looks scarily empty especially as it's approaching party season. But everywhere I scour, (and believe me, I've scoured everywhere.) I cannot find anything worth buying. I don't know if it is just me being extremely picky, or if anyone else has noticed the same thing?
So for today, my velour dressing gown will have to do.
Alas, although I am dressless, I am not shoeless. I love my Lucky Lou wooden wedges, and will never get bored of them. There're waiting to be worn with the new dress I will hopefully find soon. Not really winter shoes, but then again I've never been one for dressing appropriately!

A grand date up North.

For my birthday present my wonderful boyfriend bought me a pair of tickets to go and see Arcade Fire. Best of all it was in Manchester. The city holds a special place in my heart- I lived there a few years ago now and am very fond of it.
Getting ourselves ready for the gig.
I was so grateful of the mild weather, it meant I could show off my pin up girl Get Cutie skirt, without having to cover it up with a thick wintery coat.

After all the incredible live music, I took Christopher to my favourite hang out, Tiger Lounge. As we headed down the stairs into the underground jiving we were welcomed by a giant jungle themed painting of Bettie Paige stood between two leopards and wearing a hot leopard bikini. It's still my favourite.
It is home to the most splendid night, Your Mama's Cookin'. With entertainment such as Cake Baking competitions and LindyHop Lessons. Hosted by the lovely Lora Avedian & Johnny Walsh.

We shimmied, Christopher got called Buddy Holly, and we fantasied about everyone doing simultaneous dance routines with no pushing and shoving on the dance floor.
The interior was still as kitsch as I remember. Full of riki tiki ornaments, 50's pin ups and our favourite, tiger fur walls!

Unfortunately, it was time to head home. Arcade Fire were totally mind blowing. The imagery was enthralling, the band themselves were incredibly intense and the whole affair was down right dramatic. Regine Chassange's sequined outfit made her look like a Christmas Super hero!
My weekend was perfect.

Frosty feet & favourite friends.

These are my two best friends. Chloe on the left and Ruth on the Right. We spent last weekend in Sheffield visiting Chloe who is a student nurse. And who couldn't get her car off her street due to all the snow!
We ate tasty fahjitas, drank some fruity wine, danced and laughed to Motown and Soul.
And at the end of the night, we were asked to leave our taxi at the end of Chloe's street, as our driver did not "want to get frostbite" I don't know how he was expecting to get it inside a warm car, whilst we hobbled in our heels home. Ever so elegantly of course.
The morning was spent giggling in bed (from all the Agwa we drank) and visiting our favourite tea shop, Coco.

My favourite photo of the night. Always the show off.

1959-60

Look who I found reading my new book!
"Picturegoer Film Annual 1959-60"
I haven't even read it yet, just flicked through the pages full of pretty people in the Charity shop.
Cheeky dawg, she must love movie stars as much as me!
